CURRENT SITUATION OF COFFEE IN NEPAL

 
  • 1.   Hira Giri first introduced coffee in Nepal from Burma in the year 1995.
  • 2.   Initially coffee was planted only as hobby.
  • 3.   First coffee plantation was done in Gulmi.
  • 4.   In 2035 B.S., King Birendra declared Gulmi as coffee region which marked the beginning of professional coffee production.
  • 5.   In 2045 B.S., Nepalese Coffee Producers Associations working committee was formed in Palpa.
  • 6.   In 2049 B.S., Nepal Tea & Coffee Development Board was established.
  • 7.   In 2054 B.S., District Coffee Producers associations were formed in different districts of Nepal.
  • 8.   In 2062 B.S., Nepal Coffee Producers converted
  • 9.   Till date, 17 districts Coffee Producers Associations have been formed.
  • 10.   Coffee is being produced in more than 25 districts.
  • 11.   In Nepal, currently there are:
  • 12.   More than 1700 coffee producer groups.
  • 13.   120 coffee co-operatives.
  • 14.   41 districts are suitable for coffee plantations.
  • 15.   More than 30,000 coffee farmers are associated with NCPA.
  • 16.   More than 20 coffee industries have been established.
  • 17.   The demand of Nepalese coffee both nationwide & worldwide is increasing continuously.
  • 18.   Numbers of coffee lovers are also increasing in Nepal.
  • 19.   Till now more than 500 coffee houses have been established.
  • 20.   Due to ever increasing popularity of coffee culture, number of coffee farmers is also increasing.
  • 21.   The logo of Nepalese coffee has been registered in international market as Himalayan specialty Coffee.
